We get the question all the time "Where did you get the name Olive?" We heard the name Olive for the first time on the movie "Little Miss Sunshine" and really liked the name. When we found out we were having a girl, we thought of several names and one of those was Olive. We looked up all of the info on the name to learn that, it means "an olive", it was most popular in the 1800's, and it has never made the top 100 names. We knew that whatever name we chose, her middle name would be Kay, which was Stephen's mom's middle name. Last March, we went to Arkansas and we were visiting the town where Stephen's grandma lived for years and the cemetery where a lot of their family are buried. We drove down Grandma's street and saw where her house used to sit. Stephen has very fond memories of the house and stealing strawberries from the neighbor's strawberry patch. When we came to the stop sign at the end of the street and looked up, we saw that the street sign said Olive Street. We decided then and there that Olive was the name for our daughter. I didn't have my camera with me, but I will get a picture the next time we visit. A few days after Olive was born, my friend Nakia sent me this picture. She was on vacation with her family and found this street sign.
We know that it isn't the most common name, but we love it and think that it suits our precious little girl perfectly. If she has as much confidence as Olive in "Little Miss Sunshine" then we will have done something right!
