Snowmaggedon--Day Three, Being a Little More Productive...

Snow day number 3, we actually decided to get dressed and leave the house for lunch! Olive was so excited!
Well, not all of us left the house. Someone decided to stay home and be lazy...
We had a yummy lunch at Coach's.
Daddy took Olive on a little tour to look at all of the Sooner memorabilia.
(For inquiring minds, you know who you are. :) Yes, we have established the pacifier only in the bed rule, but today was an exception. Stephen had business to take care of this morning that lasted longer than expected which pushed our one chance to get out of the house into her nap time. It kept her content, so we broke the rules. Bad consistency, I know! )
During nap time, I got the urge to work on a little sewing project I had seen on a blog. A ruffled camera strap! For a great tutorial on how to make one for yourself, go to http://www.kevinandamanda.com/whatsnew/crafts-projects/make-a-ruffled-camera-strap-slipcover.html
and while you are there, look at her scrapbook room. It will either make you totally hate her or desperately want to be her. I can't decide which. Thanks to Deanna for introducing me to this blog where she actually creates fonts out of handwriting. Okay, now I am really leaning towards wanting to be her!

To see how I completely screwed up the tutorial and did it another way, keep reading...
(I hope the sewing Gods don't strike me down)

First measure your camera strap, mine was 24" by 1.75", you will need to add 1 inch to these measurements for your fabric measurements. Then cut two pieces of fabric to these dimensions.
Hem the ends of the fabric pieces individually, then place the fabric pieces right side together and pin down the middle. She said to measure to make it in the center, I just eye balled it (Sorry sewing Gods!) Then sew the two fabric pieces together on one side using a basic stitch.
She used three different fabrics, but I have a slight obsession with ribbon, so I decided to use ribbon. I thought the silky texture would be fancy! Sew a basting stitch (the long stitch) down the middle of the ribbon, leaving a long piece at the end.

Pin the ribbon to the center of the fabric piece that you want to be the top.
Now this is where I will show my sewing ignorance. You are supposed to pull the long basting stitch out, which is why you left a long string at the end. And then sew it onto the fabric. But, Nora here, had forgotten to burn the end of the ribbon to keep it from fraying and decided to do that. So I burned the thread that I need to pull. Brilliant, huh? So, I created my own ruffle by carefully pushing the ribbon in.

It still works, it is probably just a little more time consuming and not as accurate. If you do it my way, you will need to cut the ribbon 2.5 times longer than your fabric piece. (mine was approximately 60 inches of ribbon) Let's be honest, I didn't measure it with a measuring tape, I just doubled it and then of course, didn't have enough ribbon and had to add some in. But, you can't tell! So be smart, unlike me, and measure your ribbon.
Then pin your second ribbon choice on top of the beautiful ribbon ruffle you just made.
And using the same technique, sew it on top of the other 2 layers.
After you have finished your ruffles. Turn the ruffles to the inside and sew the other side of the two fabric pieces together. Then turn it inside out and TADA!!
A perfectly imperfect ruffly camera strap!
Did that even make sense? Probably just go check out Amanda's tutorial. I guarantee it will be more helpful then my rambling. :) Happy Sewing!

Snowmaggedon--Day Two

On our second snow day, we decided that playing in the snow was a good idea! During Olive's nap, Daddy went to Walmart (yes, you read that correctly, Stephen went to Walmart!) and found Ollie the perfect pink snow boots! When she woke up, she couldn't wait to put them on and try them out.

Then it was time to start putting on the layers over her jammies...

You will notice that she isn't wearing gloves, this is not a negligent mistake on our parts. She Would Not Wear Them! In fact, she freaked out when we tried to cover her hands. So in an effort to at least enjoy the snow a little, we decided that we wouldn't stay out long.
"Brrrrrr...."
She thought it was pretty great...
and then this step tripped her up a little bit, sending both bare hands
straight into the freezing snow...
making for a very unhappy snow bunny!
She settled down enough to get down and watch Wrigley trying to eat a snowball,
and to pose with Daddy!

Daddy made a special "sled" for Olive out of a giant rubbermaid container.
"In you go!"
She didn't want to sit down, but she liked it!

"Wheeee!"
Because of the refusal to wear gloves, our snow adventure only lasted a total of 5 minutes. Maybe we will try again when the temperature is above 10 degrees!

Snowmaggedon--Day One

Well, they said we were going to have a blizzard and they were right! We heard ice pellets beating on the windows when we went to bed Monday night and then Tuesday we woke up to a snowy white windy wonderland.
What do you want to do today, Olive Kay? Stay in our jammies and play! Okay!
Watchin' a little "Team Umi Zoomi"
Eating a yummy breakfast!
Playing, playing, and playing some more!
Rolling the ball with Daddy!
Wrigley was the only one to brave the snow. We watched her from inside!
Then we did a little coloring.
Sweet girl saw her jean jacket and insisted on wearing it after her nap!
Lunch time! Don't let the smile on her face fool you, mac-n-cheese is usually her staple, but she decided that she wasn't going to eat it. So, she ate dried fruit and a piece of turkey instead.
AAHHH!! When will the eating war end?
Then she rode a horse...
and another horse...
and a "Daddy" horse!
We had such a fun day staying inside and playing! We are out again on Wednesday, so who knows what we will do! If the wind chill isn't -16, maybe we will try to play in the snow. Hope your family is safe and warm!

Feeding Wrigley

Poor Wrigley! For the most part she has adjusted just fine to her little sister. Occasionally, she gets annoyed by someone constantly pestering her and goes outside, but usually she humors Olive pretty well. But now things have gotten bad. Wrigley has always eaten at about 7:00 am and 5:30 pm. The breakfast time varied, but 5:30 was a constant. Now Olive has even messed that up. Stephen found that Olive absolutely LOVES helping to feed Wrigley and it is something they do together every day. I love listening to them because she gives the commands just like he does!
How many scoops? 1, 2!
Sit Wrigley! (which sounds more like "Seet Re re")
Going back in to get "Wa wa Re Re!"
When Stephen fills up the cup, Olive finds the "OU" on the side and
makes him proud by saying "OooooU"
"Herego Re Re"

Sorry Wrigley that your schedule has been adjusted, but your sister sure loves to help feed you!
